TWO OF ROCK N ROLLS BIGGEST ICONS AND LEGENDS BATTLE JIMI HENDRIX VS JIM MORRISON
WHICH ONE IS THE LEGEND
Jimi Hendrix is a legend YES, of course he’s the LEGEND.
Hailed by music scene as the greatest guitarist of all time, Jimi Hendrix was also one of the biggest cultural figures of the Sixties, a psychedelic voodoo child who spewed clouds of distortion and pot smoke. His awe-inspiring skill and tremendous creativity altered how people both listen to and create rock music. Although his career only lasted a handful of years, no other guitarist has left such a massive bump on the world. When it comes to Jimi everyone agrees that – no one did it better than he did.
But wait… When we compare it in terms of writing song lyrics, Who Wins?
Jim Morrison, is still very much alive. Revered by fans as a rebel rocker, the charismatic frontman for the Doors was known for his peculiar dance moves and seemingly his endless charm. Well, I haven’t played the Doors in a long time and I was just listening to several song lyrics. Wow.. compared to the stuff you hear today where many pop artist don’t write their own lyrics and they’re so tedious, maybe? Then where the hell did he come up with this stuff? Poet on drugs on the edge of delusion is what comes to mine. Pure genius. He was quite an amazing man, as well as a decent singer and lyricist, Jim Morrison is just plain magic.
However, is all of the statements above entirely true? Was Jim’s brilliance highly overlooked?
Some people consider that Jim Morrison was not a songwriter, he was a lyricist/poet, people say Jim Morrison was a cheap poet or no poet at all. However not all the songs were written by him…..Um so it might be true that Morrison wrote the lyrics over the band’s music but Kreiger and Manzarek were the songwriters in that band. Light my Fire was written by Robby Krieger, who was great at creating fantastic, catchy songs but was definitely not into poetry as Jim Morrison was. LEGENDARY
This is especially true given one of the main reasons I am such a fan is because of his ever poetic lyrics.
This strophe never stops making me fascinated everytime I am companionless Jim is a legendary storyteller. It is cool that you are listening to The Doors again, and you realize how great things are.
Then how about Jimi Hendrix, The epitome of a legend?
Hendrix was an excellent songwriter, I would also argue
that Jimi was every bit as good a lyricist/poet as Morrison,
but Hendrix’s lyrics are overshadowed by his amazing
guitar playing. Morrison wrote some bad stuff along the
way… but the Doors had more hits, so they are idolized by
